Kids ages 8-10 can take a trip around the world without leaving the mountain by participating in MACC’s summer language camp being held Monday-Friday, June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“They’ll get the opportunity to experience several different languages, cultures and ways of life,” said Laurie Stevens, owner of Chattanooga School of Language, which is organizing the camp.
The camp will provide an introduction to Spanish, French, German and Japanese. It will use the Chattanooga School of Language’s holistic approach to learning a language, which incorporates art, music, dance and food to introduce students to other cultures and ways of life.
“Through these outlets, it gives them a taste of the language,” said Stevens. “This is an awesome age to start exposing kids to language. It’s a fun age because they can participate in a lot of different activities. I wish I had something like this when I was little.”
Possible activities include making origami or playing “futbol” in honor of the World Cup, being held in Brazil June 12 through July 13.
