KNOXVILLE – Authorities say two men were injured when their small plane crashed trying to land in Blount County.

According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, the Aeronca aircraft hit some trees while attempting to land on a privately-owned landing strip around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The pilot, 65-year-old Charles W. Hall of Newburgh, Indiana, said he attempted to pull the plane up but it didn’t have enough power.

Hall and his passenger, 50-year-old Julian R. Murphy of Knoxville, were treated for their injuries at local hospitals and released.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
