The Chattanooga area apparently is full of “fat guys,” because for the second time in a week a local man will appear on an episode of “Fat Guys in the Woods.”
Dane Bryson, a Chattanooga resident, will appear in the episode that airs Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. on the Weather Channel. Andrew Stone, from Dalton, Ga., is appearing on the episode that airs this Sunday at 10 p.m.
In the show, survivalist Creek Stewart takes three “fat guys” out into the woods for a week, trying to teach them how to live there without the comforts of modern society. In the Sept. 14 show, he teaches the three contestants — Dane, Big Fella and Josh — how to start a fire with a battery and a gum wrapper, a technique that works surprisingly well.
In one segment, the three contestants find a catfish swimming in a creek. Using bamboo poles cut into multipronged gigs — one with a knife stuck into the end — it takes them several attempts, but eventually they stab the fish and bring it out of the water to eat.
“I can’t tell you just how excited I was about this catfish,” Dane says. “I mean, we were really hungry out here and, when we saw this thing, I mean, it looked like a feast.”
In the show with Dalton’s Andrew Stone, Stewart teaches the three guys to make a fire using a condom.
