KNOXVILLE — One of the first orders of business for Rick Barnes as Tennessee’s new basketball coach is filling the roles on his coaching staff.
It’s a process through which the former Texas coach is continuing to sort.
Barnes indicated during his introduction Tuesday he would bring a couple of assistant coaches with him from Texas, but he had not finalized any decisions.
By the end of the day Wednesday, the only decisions Barnes had made concerned some of the holdovers from former coach Donnie Tyndall’s staff.
Five staffers — assistant coach Beau Braden, director of player development J.T. Burton, basketball operations director Justin Phelps, strength and conditioning coach Todd Moyer and video coordinator Ty Proffitt — won’t be retained, a Tennessee spokesman confirmed.
