NASHVILLE — The Senate gave final approval today to a compromise on the state’s Common Core standards for math and English language arts.

Voting 27-1, senators sent to Republican Gov. Bill Haslam a bill that enshrines Haslam’s current review process, adds a 10-member committee to ride herd on changes and later repeal and replace the Common Core standards with the revised standards.

The Senate bill was sponsored by Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville. The House passed the bill 97-0 on Tuesday.
