TORONTO (AP) – Blue Jays star Jose Bautista strained his right shoulder trying to throw out a Baltimore batter from right field during a testy game, and he was absent from the lineup Wednesday night.

The Blue Jays said that along with missing a game against the Orioles, Bautista won’t be able to play the outfield for the next few days.

Toronto manager John Gibbons said Bautista could end up on the disabled list if his shoulder doesn’t improve soon.

Bautista’s shoulder had already been sore for about a week before the ill-advised throw. He aggravated the injury trying to nab Delmon Young on a single in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s 13-6 romp over the Orioles.

“That’s when I first said, ‘That wasn’t the smartest thing to do,'” Bautista said.
