Constitution gives right to ‘carry’
I want to comment on how amazed I was with the story of how a man walking “very deliberately” down the street with a hybrid Confederate flag (Free Press page, Aug. 10) upset a concerned citizen of Arlington, Va. I was amazed because I know that Arlington is the home and headquarters of the American Nazi Party.
Now there’s a group that can march down the streets of Arlington with a “nothing hybrid about it,” out and out Nazi flag with more deliberation and raising more [problems] then any poor single rebel could even think about – and the good people think nothing of it.
Ask them, they’ll tell you, it’s their constitutional right.

Citizens must not just ‘do nothing’
We have seen the images of Planned Parenthood negotiating to sell baby parts. There is an instructive occurrence in the book of Judges in which justice is called for after a woman abused by one tribe is cut into 12 parts and sent to the 12 tribes of Israel.
Let us focus on the parallel between this event in Judges and the episode of recent days. What is the response of our culture to the sale of aborted baby parts?
Our leaders and most of the media, including the New York Times, support Planned Parenthood and offer the excuse of research for mankind. The Senate vote to defund Planned Parenthood was defeated. Thus, our representative body supports this practice. Imagine the outcry if parts of a dolphin or lion were so used.
Toleration of this procedure reveals a severe moral decline in our nation. Our culture has already accepted the murder of little humans in the womb, and now we assert our willingness to accept their in-womb butchering for research. What does this callous disregard for life reveal of us?
Someone has said: For evil to triumph, good (citizens) must do nothing.

Lincoln monument may be next to go
Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson can stop spinning in their graves: The Democratic Party is disassociating itself from Old Hickory and the sage of Monticello.
Whatever noteworthy qualities the two deceased and formerly (at least by Democrats) esteemed gentlemen had in common with the party have long since disappeared. The embarrassment suffered by descendants of Jefferson and Jackson will no doubt subside as the party no longer wishes to host dinners bearing the names of two presidents regularly included on superlative lists by our nation’s previous leaders.
With the Democratic Party’s embrace of presentism, what historic leader could be worthy to lend a name to the party’s annual rubber chicken gatherings?
Abraham Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, might qualify except for the fact that he was present at the birth of the Republican Party and was its first president. Even if party affiliation could be overlooked, he participated in the removal of an Indian tribe during the Blackhawk War and was an advocate of the repatriation of African-Americans to the coast of West Africa.
A future Democratic-controlled Congress may want to consider removing his monument from our nation’s capital for those unpardonable 16-decade old transgressions.

Cemetery issues not unknown to officials
It was stated in a recent article about the North Chattanooga cemetery that zoning and building officials didn’t know about it.
That’s interesting since it was brought up several years ago to the Planning Commission along with drainage issues when Dr. Jeffery Singer wanted to develop either that property or the property adjoining.
