A 29-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter were killed in a head-on car crash in Ooltewah just after midnight Thursday.
Rachael Mosier died hours after the accident, while her daughter, Braylie Mosier, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Mosier was driving south around 6100 Mountain View Road on the wrong side of the road when she struck a pickup truck head-on, according to Chattanooga police. The driver of the pickup truck, Rodney Proffitt, 32, was injured but is expected to recover.
Proffitt is a Chattanooga police officer, and he was off duty and driving his personal vehicle.
Authorities don’t know why Mosier was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Family and friends of the Mosiers took to Facebook on Thursday to remember the family, with hundreds of people offering condolences. In photos online, a smiling Braylie – blond and with two missing front teeth – plays with a dog and gives her mother a kiss.
