UTC set to play 8 fall softball games

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team will play an eight-game fall schedule, head coach Frank Reed announced Monday.

The Mocs will host all of their fall matchups at Frost Stadium, including the RBI Club Fall Classic. The defending Southern Conference champions will have three 10-inning games, beginning on Sept. 19 against Cleveland State. They will host Roane State and Lincoln Memorial before the classic on Oct. 2-3 at Frost Stadium and Warner Park.

UTC plays West Georgia Tech, Union, Bryan and Chattanooga State in the two-day tournament.

“The fall is a learning experience, especially when you have a class of seven freshmen,” Reed said in a release. “It gives us a chance to see how they fit in. Some of them are multi-position players, so we’ll get an opportunity to play them in several places. Hopefully by the end of the fall, we get a clear picture of where we want to go.”

Reed said the fall classic will be a big recruiting weekend for the program, as there will be a number of recruits who have committed to the Mocs for the 2016-17 school year in town for official visits, along with some other recruits considering UTC.

The Mocs will end the fall with the Blue-Gold game on Oct. 10. Admission will be free and will include a picnic hosted by the Chattanooga RBI club.
