Chattanooga wooed Gary Vaynerchuk. Credit the city itself, along its entrepreneurial movers and shakers. It started on a bright spring day last year, when Vaynerchuk came to town to talk about about his book, “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook.” The founder and CEO of VaynerMedia arrived in the Scenic City at the invitation of Lamp Post Group partner Ted Alling.

“I was just a huge Gary Vaynerchuk fan,” Alling says. “I had read all his books and absolutely loved his videos.” Within a year, Vaynerchuk would be on his way to opening a Chattanooga office for VaynerMedia, the fourth for his social-media-focused marketing agency, which is headquartered in New York City.

A gorgeous day greeted Vaynerchuk when he set about exploring Chattanooga in May 2014. Alling met him at Warehouse Row and showed him around Coyote Logistics, the company that had recently purchased Access America, which Alling cofounded and that UPS purchased last summer.

“Coyote has an incredible atmosphere and the energy was pumping that day,” Alling recalls.
