Alabama will continue to blare Scott Cochran’s booming voice on the Bryant-Denny Stadium video boards with Cochran still on the sideline.
The most recognized strength coach in Southeastern Conference football will remain in Tuscaloosa, with Alabama announcing Monday that Cochran would be back for a 10th season. Earlier this month, al.com reported that Cochran was expected to follow new Georgia coach Kirby Smart to Athens.
“I’m very happy that Scott Cochran will continue to lead our strength and conditioning program,” Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban said in a release. “He’s an important part of our program and does an outstanding job. The players really respond to him, and his role has been a big part of what we have been able to accomplish in terms of our success here both on and off the field.”
Cochran, who is making $420,000 this season, has been on Saban’s staff for all four of his national championships – one at LSU and three with the Crimson Tide. Alabama’s 2009 national-title team outscored foes 121-32 in the fourth quarter, and the Tide’s 2011 national champs outscored opponents 111-18 in the fourth quarter.
The Tuscaloosa News reported Monday night that Cochran could now make in excess of $500,000.
“I appreciate everything the University of Alabama has done for me and my family during our nine years here,” Cochran said. “It’s a privilege and an honor to work at such a special place.”
