Off the couch: Plenty to do this week

BARRY COURTER: Lisa, it’s finally here. Christmas week. That time of the year when the professionals are separated from the amateurs. The pros have all the packages beautifully wrapped and under the tree, the meals planned and freeze-wrapped in the fridge ready for Friday, and they have everybody’s schedules regarding where to be and when for every day of the week posted on the refrigerator door.

The amateurs, like me, are just now looking at a calendar and asking when that holiday with the tree and the turkey will be this year.

Seriously, though, this is the week when parents are looking for ways to entertain kids who are filled with holiday sugar, and visiting family members have tired of telling each other how much they’ve grown and how cute the baby is. So what can folks do in town this week?

LISA DENTON: Actually, you might be surprised by how much there is to do.

Christmas Underground at Ruby Falls will be open Tuesday and Wednesday. Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights is open every night except Christmas Eve (though you can go through during the day if you don’t mind a less-enchanted tour).
