A 54-year-old man was killed this morning while working at Wrigley Manufacturing, police said.
Wallace Scarbro was fatally injured shortly after midnight today at the candy plant at 3002 Jersey Pike.
He died at the factory, according to police. Investigators are currently treating the death as accidental, according to a release sent out by police.
A spokeswoman from Wrigley said the company was “deeply saddened” by the death in a statement.
“We are in the process of working with appropriate authorities in the investigation,” the statement read. “Right now, there is little we can say to make this easier, and out of respect for the family and our associates, we will not comment further at this time.”
Scarbro is the second person to die while working at Wrigley in the last 16 months.
A 34-year-old woman, Mandie Rachael Creel Chitwood, died in October 2013 when a forklift hit the ladder she was climbing and she was thrown into an 8-inch diameter pipe.
The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the company $8,575 after a subsequent investigation revealed two serious and seven non-serious violations at the plant.
