LONDON (AP) – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s trip this week to the United Kingdom included a soccer match and an unexpected detour into the science and politics of vaccines.

But for a trip designed in part to bolster his experience abroad, it largely lacked a sense of the Republican’s views of the world and foreign policy.

Unlike on his previous trips overseas to Mexico and Canada, Christie did not deliver a formal speech to a think tank or industry group.

He appeared so reluctant to discuss foreign policy that he dismissed reporter’s questions on topics including trade and the Islamic State group. Moreover, his trip was overshadowed by remarks he made about vaccinations.
