Next week’s GHSA traditional wrestling state tournament field will be finalized Saturday at East and West sectional tournaments throughout the state.

Wrestlers must win twice before losing twice to advance, with the top eight finishers in Classes 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the top four in Classes 1 and 2 qualifying for the tournament in Macon. Gilmer County and Northwest Whitfield will renew acquaintances at Whitewater High School a week after meeting in six of the 14 finals in their area traditional tournament.

Area 6 champion Sonoraville is the host of the Class AAA West Sectional and will be among the favorites, while the toughest sectional involving area teams might be at the Greater Atlanta Christian School, where three of the top four duals teams are involved: champion Social Circle, Lovett and Gordon Lee. Trion also will have its hands full in the Class A West Sectional at George Walton Academy, where top-ranked Commerce will be the favorite.
