Most will remember Super Bowl XLIX ending with a call, many say the “worst call in football history,” as the Seattle Seahawks had second down, 1 yard to go, as the clock ticked at 26 seconds remaining to score what appeared to be an imminent touchdown.
Despite having one of the league’s best running backs, Marshawn Lynch, Seattle threw the ball into a crowded end zone to be intercepted by the New England Patriots, ending the game.
But around 600 folks will remember Super Bowl XLIX as the night they were arrested for illegal sexual activity.
From Jan. 15 through Feb. 1, 37 law enforcement agencies from 17 states participated in the “National Day of Johns,” led by the Cook County, Ill., Sheriff’s Department. This strategic sting used online technology such as Craigslist and Backpage.com to arrest those who wanted to purchase sex.
The “National Day of Johns” began in 2011 with almost 3,000 arrests after nine similar operations across the nation. The arrests in the 2015 sting mark the largest number arrested to date, according to Sheriff Thomas Dart of Cook County.
