Dozens of shoppers wait to enter the newly remodeled Goodwill store on South Terrace Friday as officials open the store with a ribbon cutting in East Ridge in this Jan. 1, 2015, photo. Goodwill of Chattanooga is expanding into Chatsworth with the opening of a 5,000-square-foot store in the Chatsworth Shopping Center on North 3rd Avenue, next to Aaron’s.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned today at 10 a.m. and the store will open Friday with hourly prize drawings from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The first 100 customers on grand opening day will receive promotional giveaway items.
Adjacent to the new store will be a donation center trailer for tax-deductible donations of “gently used” items, which will be accepted Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
The Chatsworth store will employ approximately nine people and will be the 16th retail outlet in the 23-county Chattanooga Goodwill service area. The funds generated by the sale of items in the Chatsworth store and all Goodwill retail stores help fund free job training, medical equipment, clothing vouchers and other programs and services for people with disabilities and other disadvantages.
In 2014, Chattanooga Goodwill Industries served more than 11,000 people.
