A Dunlap, Tenn., man is charged with criminal homicide in the fatal stabbing of another man who died at the scene early Wednesday.

When they arrived at McGlothen Lanes East about 1:55 a.m. CST Wednesday, Dunlap Police found Alvin James Sandell, 22, suffering a stab wound to the chest, according to a news release issued by Dunlap Police Chief Clint Huth. Sandell, who had just moved to Dunlap from Hamilton County, died at the scene.

Two other people, identified as John David Altenhoff, 34, and Melody Danielle Shipwash, 24, fled the scene and were apprehended by state and local authorities around 9 a.m. Wednesday in Soddy-Daisy at a home on Dallas Hollow Road, according to Huth.

Witnesses to the altercation that led to the stabbing said Altenhoff and Sandell got into a scuffle “that ended with Altenhoff stabbing Sandell in the chest.” Huth said Shipwash had been staying at the McGlothen Lane East home but left with Altenhoff after the incident.

Altenhoff is being held without bond on charges of criminal homicide. He is a former Soddy-Daisy resident.

Huth said the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting Dunlap police and the investigation is continuing.
