Bradley County Superintendent Johnny McDaniel says he’s ready to leave

Bradley County Schools Superintendent Johnny McDaniel today released the terms of a proposed buyout of his contract. And in a statement, he said he’s ready to leave the school system he has led for seven years.

If a majority of the school board votes to buy him out, the superintendent will continue to receive his salary, auto allowance, retirement contributions and health insurance for himself and his wife through June 30, 2016.

McDaniel’s current contract lists a base salary of $118,285. He is paid $1,005 per month as an auto allowance.

In a statement today, McDaniel said it’s clear to him that he and the board do not share “a common philosophical view of public education.” And thus, he’s ready to leave.

“I have come to believe that it is in the best interest of all concerned for me to leave Bradley County Schools,” he wrote. “I accept this buyout agreement for the remainder of my contract.”
