Alabama hospitals not identifying 2015 New Year babies

Administrators of several hospitals in Alabama are citing safety concerns as the reason they won’t release the identities of babies born on New Year’s Day.

Jackson Hospital spokeswoman Miranda Nobles told the Montgomery Advertiser that officials from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recently sent hospitals data showing that infant abductions from medical facilities could become more likely during the holidays. Hospital officials said this week that they would no longer release the identities of babies born Jan. 1.

A spokeswoman for Baptist Health Merrill South also said the facilities have adopted a new policy against allowing media interviews with parents or showing photos of New Year babies.
