HOUSTON — Authorities say police are responding to a hostage situation at a hospital near Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday night that it believed a man was holding at least two people hostage inside the Tomball Regional Medical Center. The sheriff’s office said in a statement that it was not known if the man was armed.

A supervisor at the county’s emergency dispatch center said the situation was in the critical care unit and began around 7 p.m.

Police in Tomball, which is about 30 miles northwest of Houston, did not immediately respond to a message. No other information was immediately available.
