The Violence Policy Center, a gun control advocacy non-profit organization, released a data analysis Wednesday that said Tennessee ranked 10th highest in the country in 2012 for homicides among the state’s black population.
The number of black people killed in homicides in Tennessee in 2012 was nearly five times the national average, according to the center’s analysis of the 246 homicides among the black population in the state in 2012.
The study says about 22 out of every 100,000 black people were killed in a homicide, compared to a national average of 4.5 people per 100,000, of any race, killed in a homicide.
