Reader slams ‘jingoistic rubbish’

I am constantly amazed by the viciousness of some of your readers and by the fact that they are willing to sign their names to some of the most ethnocentric and jingoistic rubbish I have ever read.

A case in point is Thursday’s letter “Radical Muslims have support.”

The writer apparently believes that the world will be safe only if we eliminate the world’s population of Muslims (1.6 billion people), all of whom he holds responsible for world terrorism.

Why is it that a Muslim who advocates the death of all Christian infidels is a radical who, by his advocacy, condemns all Muslims, but the writer who advocates the elimination of all Muslims as terrorists is a rational Christian who, by his advocacy, does not condemn all Christians?

All I can say is in a world of complex problems, simple solutions are for the simpleminded.

Clean Line wind big boon for state

I was excited to learn the Tennessee Regulatory Authority has granted permission for Clean Line to operate as a public utility in our state.

Giving Clean Line this status is an important step in bringing 3,500 megawatts of wind power to Tennessee and the region from the Great Plains.

Wind power is one of our most promising sources of affordable, reliable and climate-friendly electricity in the U.S. In fact, utilities across the country are taking advantage of record-breaking wind output this winter to keep the lights on and prices down.

Last year, wind power helped consumers save $1 billion during the polar vortex. Bringing wind power to Tennessee contributes to our state’s goal of promoting and supporting more sustainable energy sources. It will also create needed jobs and economic development in West Tennessee.

I hope TVA will move quickly to sign an agreement to purchase this Great Plains wind from Clean Line very soon so we can all benefit from this cheap and clean source of power.
