Three people died in two accidents in Walker County over the weekend.

Fifty-seven-year-old Michael Lewis Burns of Rossville was killed in a hit and run incident Saturday afternoon.

Burns was traveling in his electric wheelchair on the shoulder of the road on Indian Avenue in Rossville when he was struck around 1:30 p.m.

The motorist drove a white or silver car that looked like an Acura, according to Georgia State Patrol Corp. A.B. Gideon.

The driver stopped momentarily, then continued going south on Indian Avenue, said Gideon.

In another incident, two people died around 11:30 a.m. Sunday after a driver lost control of a car and hit a tree.

Richard Guinn Bethune, 52, was driving a gold Toyota Corolla on Highway 157 when he lost control of the car, went off the side of the road and hit a tree. Speed was a factor in the accident, according to Gideon. The passenger, a 40-year-old male, will be identified when police are able to notify his next of kin, Gideon said.
