You have a faster connection to the Internet than you had a month ago, if you get service through Charter Communications.
The company has doubled speeds from 30 Mbps to 60 Mbps, without charging customers more.
“You should automatically get that upgrade,” spokeswoman Patti Michel said Monday.
The service comes in tandem with the launch of Charter Spectrum, a “suite of TV, Internet and voice services,” according to the company. The improvements are made possible by the company’s recent upgrade to an all-digital network.
Charter Spectrum is available in all or part of the following Tennessee counties: McMinn, Meigs, Rhea, Hamilton, Grundy, Bradley and Marion. Georgia counties include: Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Dade and Walker.
Charter Spectrum is advertised as having several package combinations that start at $29.99 a month. It offers more than 200 HD channels, though customers get fewer with less-expensive packages. One feature includes 12,000 on-demand choices, including 3,000 HD offerings.
There is also an app for watching more than 130 live-television channels on a tablet or smart phone, when customers are in the home that has service.
Charter Spectrum Voice provides unlimited local and long-distance calling in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
The service includes voicemail and 13 features such as call waiting and call forwarding, without added fees, according to a news release from the company.
“We encourage folks to give us a call because we want to give them the right package for them,” Michel said.
Charter touts that its service requires no long-term contracts and is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Internet modems are provided free of charge.
The company’s switch from analog to digital encoding required customers to get digital decoder boxes.
The shift, which was nationwide, started in 2013. Charter, based in Stamford, Conn., offers service in 29 states.
On Dec. 29, the transition in southeastern Tennessee and Northwest Georgia was complete, Michel said.
Charter’s speedier connection follows in step with other companies that offer service in the region, but still trails faster Internet links offered by both Comcast and EPB in the Chattanooga area.
Comcast advertises Internet service of up to 105 Mbps, and EPB offers its well-known 1 gigabit-per-second service — the fastest citywide Internet speed in the Western Hemisphere.
