A suspect has been arrested after a 35-year-old mom was found shot to death in Gordon County.
Deputies found the body of Stephanie Valerie in a home on Baxter Road in the Dews Pond community shortly after midnight July 6.
About 14 hours later, authorities apprehended 35-year-old Fred Jason "Freddie" Charles in connection to the case.
He was found hiding in the woods near Dews Pond and did not resist arrest. Detectives also detained and questioned a second individual in the case, according to a news release from the Gordon County Sheriff's Office.
Charles will be charged with Valerie's murder, the release stated.
Investigators believe someone involved in the case fled in a stolen vehicle, a 2008 Nissan Xterra. It was later found on U.S. Forest Service land in Chattooga County.
The victim's body has been sent to the GBI Crime Laboratory in Decatur, Georgia for a post mortem examination, the release said.
