Kerilyn Mongar has been named the new volleyball coach at East Ridge High School after the resignation of former volleyball and softball coach Sandy Mauser, who handled both duties for much of the past school year.

Mongar is a 2006 graduate of Ooltewah High School and a 2010 graduate of Tennessee Tech, where she played softball.

"When we put out an announcement for the job, she immediately contacted me," East Ridge athletic director Catherine Neely said. "I remembered her from her playing days, and I really liked the way she handled herself as a player.

"I'm happy for the kids because they'll have somebody who knows the game and loves the game."

Mongar was a teacher the past four years at Sequatchie County High School, where she coached tennis and volleyball the past three seasons.

"Volleyball was always my favorite sport to play," Mongar said. "It's what all my good friends played."

Mongar said Mauser left her a team with plenty of talent, and she appreciates the opportunity to coach a longtime power in the Chattanooga area.

"I've always looked up to Coach Neely," she said. "I look forward to having her as a mentor, and I think I can learn a lot from her."
