Suicides require better understanding

When a life is lost suddenly to suicide, it is normal for family and friends to want to know the reasons. Just as suicide is an incredibly complex act, so is unraveling its motives. Before accepting bullying as the cause, please search “psychological autopsy of suicide” to gain a more factual understanding of the problem. Next, search the American Association of Suicidology to find out about training and certification in this specialty. Insist that every school district and police department in this country have access to a professional who can carry out this task. Do this, and you will help make things better for everyone.

Thugs, not guns, problem today

To gun opponents who think guns are the evil Satan: I am sorry to inform you, it is the human race. People harm people. Remember the two girls who stabbed their “friend” 19 times? People drive cars into crowds. People swing baseball bats and harm people. Or they take an ax and give their mother 40 whacks. Yet, none of these weapons are being labeled the same as guns. We do not have a perfect society. As a Vietnam combat veteran and a life NRA member who trained with weapons, I would rather have a weapon to defend myself, my family and my friends, should the need arise than not have a choice. Law-abiding citizens are not the ones to be afraid of. You should fear the criminals who do not obey the law.
