CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – James Holmes told a psychiatrist that he had thoughts of killing people months before he carried out his attack on a Colorado movie theater, but he revealed no details about his plans.

Dr. Lynne Fenton saw Holmes five times in 2012 and prescribed him drugs for anxiety and depression, concerned he had a social phobia. Her testimony is widely anticipated at Holmes’ death penalty trial.

Fenton has never spoken publicly about their relationship. She’s barred by the trial judge’s gag order, and faces a civil lawsuit accusing her of not doing enough to stop the attack.

Years later, Holmes said he wished she had stopped him somehow. But he also said he kept his plans secret from her so that no one could thwart him.
