Signal Mountain Police Chief Mike Williams confirmed Sunday that five Signal Mountain Middle/High School students have been identified in connection with recent vandalism at the school.
Sources told the Times Free Press that students were arrested for what they called thousands of dollars in damage from four-wheel drive vehicles doing donuts on school property.
Photos shot Sunday showed deep ruts and scored arcs and circles of dirt in the ground of the commons area between the middle and high schools, the band field and the area in front of the school.
Williams said Sunday that “the incident did occur and we’ve identified five kids the night of the big snow.” The area saw several inches of snow on Feb. 25.
He would not say whether anyone has been charged, and said he wouldn’t be able to recall more information until he returns to the office today.
School principal Robin Cobb also declined to discuss the incident Sunday. Former mayor Bill Lusk, reached Sunday, said he’s been out of town and didn’t know anything about it. Current Mayor Dick Gee and several Town Council members could not be reached for comment.
