State Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, says his colleagues gave a boost to beer drinkers last week.

“Senate Bill 63 removes the regulatory red-tape currently surrounding Georgia’s small business community of microbreweries by allowing them to offer patrons up to 64 ounces of beer in a single growler to enjoy at home. SB 63 passed by a vote of 51 to 5,” Mullis wrote in his weekly legislative update.

Other lawmakers dubbed SB 63 the “Beer Jobs Bill,” saying it will help the microbrew business grow.

Mullis said the Senate also unanimously passed a bill he sponsored, SB 122, which allows revenue from the special purpose local option sales tax to be used for the repair of roads, streets and bridges that have been damaged or destroyed by natural disasters.

“It is no secret that the 53rd District is Georgia’s tornado corridor and my bill will allow SPLOST dollars to be utilized for repairs in the event of a natural disaster,” Mullis wrote.
