Alex Darras, Irish control Sequatchie, 4-2

St. Patrick’s Day was good for the Irish, but not quite as good as pitcher Alex Darras.

Notre Dame’s junior hurler, getting his first extended work on the mound, led the Irish to a 4-2 victory over visiting Sequatchie County on Tuesday.

“He did a good job of getting ahead in the count,” Sequatchie coach Jacob Hatchel said. “He attacked the zone and really mixed his pitches and location.”

Darras pitched a two-hit shutout over six innings with eight strikeouts in his first start of the season.

“Alex has improved and he also looked good at the plate,” offered Irish coach Greg Elie. “He has learned to pitch and he trusts his stuff. He was impressive — first start and first time he’s seen a lot of batters all year.”
