The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team won its second match in a row Thursday, 5-2 at Alabama State, and the UTC women improved to 11-2 in 2015 with a 6-1 win at Alabama-Birmingham. The male Mocs (4-10) prevailed after losing the doubles point and the first completed singles match, as Lucas Pleasky, Nick Wingord, Luke Saunders, Nic Wilson and Gino Delavalle won in singles. Pleasky came back from a 6-4 first-set loss at No. 2 to win a tiebreaker and then the match. “This was a great win for our team because our backs were against the wall,” coach Carlos Garcia said in a UTC release. “I feel as if we became better as a team today after winning in tough conditions on the road.”
For the UTC women, Kayla Jones, Samantha Caswell and Kaylene Chadwell won in both doubles and singles, and Claire Mulyadi and Alison Storie won in singles. “This was a really tough road win for us today against a very good UAB team,” coach Jeff Clark said. “We were really tough in some of these three-set matches, and our doubles was really solid.”
