Downtown Chattanooga: Prepare to greet your new neighbors

The city is seeing an influx of new apartment complexes for residents and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students. At least six companies are opening apartments and condos this month.

* The River City Co., Chattanooga’s downtown development organization, projects that the center of the city can grow annually for the next 10 years by 40-60 new condos, 250 to 350 new rental units and 200 new student-housing units.

* Local developer John Wise is building a 75,000-square-foot mixed-use building at the corner of Main and Market streets. The building is expected to bring 63 new apartment units this year.

* Meanwhile, the Clemons, a building at Chestnut and Eighth streets that used to host a furniture manufacturer, is supposed to open as a 50-unit complex this fall.

* New student housing is also available. Vine 324 opened at the beginning of the year at the corner of Lindsay and Vine streets, with 15 modern apartments that include EPB Internet and a washer and dryer.
