Jackson White’s research and his eyes told him the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was where he wanted to spend his next four seasons.
White, a 6-foot-9 forward from Benedictine College Prep School in Richmond, Va., committed to play basketball for the Mocs late Tuesday evening. He chose UTC over offers from East Tennessee State and Virginia Military Institute.
Despite his size, he’s considered more of a “stretch 4,” a power forward versatile enough to be counted on as an outside shooter. In his senior season at Benedictine, he averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds and around 2-3 blocks per game.
“I really liked the city when I visited. That and the food,” White said, noting he ate at Champy’s on his visit. “I really believe in Coach [Matt] McCall. When I talked to him, he seemed like a guy with really good integrity.”
With a front line that already includes 6-10 junior Justin Tuoyo and 6-11 freshman Trey Kalina, White could compete for time at power forward with senior Duke Ethridge and junior Chuck Ester while also providing an option at center if needed.
