Chattanooga businessman and philanthropist John Guerry will be among the 2015 inductees into the Sewanee Athletics Hall of Fame. They will be honored Oct. 23-24. The others are cross country, wrestling and track captain and 12-letter winner Kent Rhea (class of 1957); wrestling star and football player Kevin Lenahan (1974); volleyball player Elizabeth Epps (1987); football scholar-athlete Jason Forrester (1993); former SCAC cross country and track runner of the year Ian Cross (1998); and the 1970 men’s golf team that won conference and Tennessee championships. That team, coached by Walter Bryant, included captain Edward White, CAC medalist George Waterhouse, CAC runner-up Rob Chapman, Felix Drennan, Nim Long, Jack Steinmeyer, Jock Tonissen and Mike Turner. Guerry, who graduated from Sewanee in 1949, joins his father (Alexander), his brother (Alex Jr.) and his son (Pat) in the hall. He was a three-year tennis letterman who led the Tigers to two TIAC titles, was the TIAC singles runner-up in 1948 and doubles runner-up in 1949 and through the years led numerous financial drives for the program. He has been the University Alumni president, a trustee and a Board of Regents member.
