Pierson Hibbs
Hixson
16-year-old student
Pierson Hibbs owns hand-me-down irons, but his newfound love for golf urged him to upgrade to a new Titleist driver and a new TaylorMade 3-wood.
He’s enjoying the new purchases and practicing his game at least once a week after first picking up a club about a year ago.
“My first time out, I hit every shot with a pitching wedge because I could get the ball off the ground,” Hibbs said. “I’ve gotten progressively better.”
The only shame of his game is the fact that he can’t play for his high school. The Center for Creative Arts doesn’t have sports teams.
So the competitive 16-year-old plays against family and friends, those who introduced him to the game.
“Golf is nice and relaxing and a break from school,” Hibbs said. “It’s a hobby that I’ll hopefully continue for the rest of my life.”
Hibbs will not be playing golf for a spell of 10 days in mid-July. He’ll be participating in a medical leadership summit at Johns Hopkins University.
“I’ve wanted to be an anesthesiologist since about eighth grade,” Hibbs said. “A family member was one and I really like chemistry and I like what it is, and what better than to make a difference in medicine.”
