The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team picked up a commitment from two-star defensive lineman Jonathan Decker, a 6-foot-4, 265-pounder from Alcoa High School.
Decker is a two-time all-stater for the Class 3A Tornadoes and was a member of the 2013 state championship team, the program’s 13th overall and sixth under head coach Gary Rankin. Alcoa is currently 11-1 and playing in the state quarterfinals this Friday.
He had 12 other offers, from the likes of FBS programs Appalachian State, Army, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Charlotte.
“UTC has a winning program and are a perennial contender for their conference and in the FCS,” Decker said. “I plan on winning some rings and I know I have an opportunity at UTC to get some rings.”
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he is from the birthplace of the “Too Hype” chant, which was originally brought to UTC from Alcoa by former standout Taharin Tyson.
