Is Congress a day late, dollar short? and more letters to the editors

Is Congress a day late, dollar short?

Where was Congress after Americans were killed in classrooms, theaters, and a church in Connecticut, Oregon, Colorado, Louisiana and South Carolina?

They didn’t do a thing to try to prevent such attacks in the future. Now, after an attack takes place in a foreign city, they say they want to keep Americans safe.

Where have they been?

Do not ignore teacher bullying

Do teachers bully in your school system? The answer is yes. Do teachers who get reported retaliate against the students, making the situation worse for your child? Yes, they do.

The Internet is a great resource for information about this problem in schools.

Some signs that may be helpful to parents and caregivers: Does your child often not want to go to school? Does he or she often say the teacher is angry toward them? Does your child say that students join the bullying as a result of the teacher bullying them? Does self-esteem go down?

If you suspect that your child is being bullied by a teacher, keep a written record of all incidents, include all who are involved, dates, times, who said what, who were witnesses, any disciplinary actions taken and results, what school officials or board members were involved that you reported the teacher bullying to.

School systems are loaded with outstanding and ethical teachers. But we cannot bury our head in the sand about teachers who bully our loving children.

Do your reserach.

Susan Rice needed for attack explanation

If ever there was a need for Susan Rice to appear on all of the Sunday talk shows, it was immediately following the attacks in Paris.

She could have eased the free world of unnecessary tensions, primarily in Europe and North America, by once again explaining that a rogue movie producer had made a film that decent-minded folks (with AK47’s and explosives) somehow found offensive.

A huge missed opportunity to ease the aftermath of the attacks by lying.

Oklahoma bomber was an agnostic

In response to the Chattanooga Times Tuesday editorial, “Religion is a poor litmus test for security or compassion:” Your editorial describing Timothy McVeigh as a Christian terrorist is wrong.

He never invoked Christianity as justification for his bombing as radical Islamists do with Islam.

In a letter to the Buffalo News daily before his execution, he said he was an agnostic and that if it turned out there was life after death he would “improvise, adapt, and overcome.”
