Ron Ramsey blew it on gun checks and more letters to the editors

Ron Ramsey blew it on gun checks

In the Nov. 13 edition of the Times Free Press, state Sen. Ron Ramsey is quoted as saying, “I don’t know that there has ever been one case of anyone buying a rifle or shotgun or even a pistol at a gun show from an individual and using it in a crime.

I’d like to see some research on that.”

All he had to do for his research is to look an inch to the right in the same edition of the newspaper. There was an article about cop killer Jesse Mathews being mistakenly moved to a lower security prison. He traded three guns for an M-4 rifle at a gun show in Chattanooga.

Typical politician wearing blinders.

No easy answer to world’s dangers

There is no such thing as evil, if by evil you mean a devil which overtakes otherwise good people and causes them to do bad things.

What is afoot in the world is danger, not evil. Some people are fixably dangerous, and some are unfixably dangerous.

Fixably dangerous people are those for whom there is no future worth living. Most are young men, who have a powerful need to act, and in the absence of meaningful work, will join gangs or otherwise go off the rails.

Unfixably dangerous people are sociopaths who will marshall the fixably dangerous to create chaos, as is happening with ISIS and Al Quaeda.

We can neither bomb nor invade our way out of out of this. The solutions must come from within the cultures where this chaos is centered.

Many innocent men, women and children will die during this struggle, and the question is whether they die at the hands of outsiders who are “helping,” or at the hands of ISIS and al Qaida.

We must continue our individual journeys, and try to protect ourselves from danger.

North Chattanooga bike lanes a hazard

The bike lanes on Dallas Road are a real safety hazard!

Last Monday, I had just passed Mississippi Avenue. I was in the right-hand lane and there were two cars in the left lane, the first one just stopped in the middle of the road out of no where, just to get over in the right lane, but that caused the car behind them to swerve in my lane and hit me.

When the officer arrived he even said that the bike lanes are a real hazard and he has worked more wrecks now than before when it was two lanes.

Mayor Andy Berke, get your priorities straight! Please put Dallas Road back to two lanes each way.
