Ensure holidays are safe for pets

The holidays can be hectic with family members visiting, gift exchanging and pets indoors. It is important to keep your pets in mind when decorating, as common items such as snow globes and liquid potpourri can be toxic to them.

With the holidays also come colder temperatures. Cats and dogs, like people, are susceptible to hypothermia, so it is important to bring your animals inside when temperatures are below freezing. If your animals must be outside, provide plenty of fresh, ice-free water and warm, solid shelter from the elements.

Both you and your dog will probably prefer shorter walks in very cold weather. Be aware of ice and snow build-up in your dog’s pads and remember to towel-dry your dog to remove any salt or chemical de-icers he may pick up on his coat and feet while outdoors.

Prepare for inclement weather and power outages that often accompany ice and snow by keeping your pet’s food and medications stocked in your emergency kit along with your milk, bread, and batteries.

Obama legacy in tatters

President Obama is concerned about his legacy.

Let’s see: Destroy health care; turn against Israel; do not support military leaders and police departments; blame Republicans when things don’t go his way; throw out race card causing more racial division since the ’60s; ignore federal immigration laws; lose credibility in other countries; fly around in Air Force One giving useless speeches and playing golf; ignore that former U.S. military are going back on their own to fight against Isis; try to make stricter gun laws and take away our constitutional rights; take prime holiday vacations that keep Secret Service personnel away from their families; make me never vote for another Democrat; create enough turmoil while in office to be able to be the worst president in US history. TVA salaries a bitter pill for some

In the Chattanooga Times Free Press last Saturday, on the front page in big print, was a story about TVA’s top salaries, with each employee getting a very big bonus.

We do appreciate all your good services but the salaries are out of proportion to the thousands of people struggling to live on Social Security, plus hundreds of people who cannot even get a job.

Our U.S.A. has gotten so money hungry that it seems that our nation is not even using any biblical principles any more. In my bible, God says that if we forsake him that he will forsake the USA.

God is not smiling at his greedy nation anymore, so be prepared for God’s new surprises. Pray for me as I’m 87 years old and trying to live on Social Security. God does supply all my needs but it sure is a hard life.
