UTC golfer Emily McLennan set a program record for lowest 54-hole tournament score in leading the Mocs to victory Tuesday at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.

In less than 24 hours the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team went from having a tournament washed out to receiving an invitation to play in another.

Three days later, the Mocs won - and did so in record-setting fashion.

UTC won the Fall Invitational at Chateau Elan Resort by shooting a 12-under-par 852 Monday and Tuesday, which beat Ole Miss by one stroke.

UTC senior Emily McClennan won medalist honors for herself and the team title for the Mocs by beating Ole Miss's Abby Newton with a par on the final hole of the tournament in Braselton, Ga. That gave her an 11-under-par 205 (68-68-69).

"They know that they all have individual tasks and they know that everything should come together," said UTC coach Colette Murray, whose team was scheduled to play in flooded Charleston, S.C., before Kennesaw State created the 13-team tournament near Atlanta. "I loved seeing so many birdies. We've been historically a team that makes pars and the odd birdie.

"I love that we're starting to score more red numbers."

By shooting 12 under for the tournament - with 36 holes played Monday on the Chateau Course and Tuesday's round on the Woodlands Course - the Mocs broke the previous program record by seven strokes.

Senior Isabella Loza tied for fourth at 4-under 212, which tied her career-best finish and set a career high with 11 birdies. Freshman Cristina Perez tied for 18th at 217, and sophomore Megan Woods tied for 20th at 218.

"A lot of good memories have been made at that golf course," Murray said. "All of the girls are hungry to win and they know they're capable of winning."

McLennan's 11 under bested the previous individual tournament record, set by Christine Wolf in 2011, by two strokes. She also became the first UTC player to score three rounds in the 60s

"I'm so happy that I can put three solid rounds together," McLennan said. "I'm going to expect that from myself every week."

Middle Tennessee State finished third at 856 with Walker Valley graduate Avery George tied for 14th at 216 and former St. Andrew's-Sewanee golfer Jenna Burris tied for 18th at 217.

UTC men seventh

The UTC men's team tied for seventh at the Wolfpack Fall Open at Raleigh, N.C., with Wes Gosselin earning his first top-five finish of the season.

UTC shot an 18-over 586 in the 36-hole event and finished 13 strokes behind champion Augusta University in the 16-team event.

Gosselin, a junior, shot back-to-back 71s in tying for fifth, six shots behind medalist Robin Petersson of Augusta.

Stuart Thomas and Brooks Thomas added 8-over 150s, while both Andrew Weathers and Lake Johnson shot 151.
