SMITHVILLE, Texas (AP) – The latest on a wildfire in Central Texas (all times local):

7:55 a.m.

The Texas A&M Forest Service says a wildfire that’s blackened more than 6 square miles in Central Texas, near Smithville, remained about 25 percent contained Friday.

Forest Service spokeswoman Jessica Jackson says a DC-10 jet tanker, capable of dropping nearly 12,000 gallons of flame retardant at a time, was being dispatched Friday from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Jackson says no injuries were reported in the wildfire burning since Tuesday in Bastrop County, about 30 miles east of Austin. Bastrop State Park remains open but some areas were closed Friday due to fire damage.

Forecasters predict more hot, dry weather through the weekend, with temperatures in the 80s, and no chance of showers until Tuesday.
