Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio will be in the Scenic City today to ask Chattanoogans for their support.
Former U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, who is leading Rubio’s campaign efforts in the state, said Wednesday that anyone planning to attend should get to Lindsay Street Hall early.
“We are already assured an overflow crowd, because early registration has already exceeded capacity,” Wamp said.
As a result of high attendance, Rubio will speak to the inside and outside crowds separately, Wamp said.
“It’s always a great problem to have in politics,” he said. The hall is at 901 Lindsay St.
After the rally in downtown Chattanooga, Rubio will go to Wamp’s home for a private fundraiser.
Rubio, a first-term, first-generation Cuban-American senator from Florida, announced in April he would seek the presidency. He will be the third GOP hopeful to tour in Chattanooga.
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum visited in June for a presidential campaign fundraiser, and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, also Cuban-American, came on Aug. 10.
GOP candidate Dr. Ben Carson is planning a book signing in Chattanooga on Oct. 11.
Candidate Donald Trump and Santorum went to Nashville last month.
The Tennessean reported Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton will be in Nashville on Sept. 29. So far, no Democratic candidates have come to Chattanooga, although former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley came to Nashville in August.
