The man who was critically injured after falling approximately 20 feet into a culvert at the TVA office building on 12th Street in downtown Chattanooga Monday has died.

Chattanooga police identified the victim as 63-year-old Edward Morgan, according to a news release.

Shortly before noon Monday, Morgan was attempting to slide a metal grate a few inches from a wall in order to paint the building, but accidentally pulled the grate too far, causing it to fall into the culvert. Morgan's fingers were reportedly stuck in the grate, causing him to also fall in, eyewitnesses reported.

Morgan succumbed to his injuries at Erlanger Medical Center.

TOSHA will be investigating the incident, the release said. Morgan was an employee of TBM (Total Building Maintenance), which was doing contract maintenance work for TVA.
