The decrease in populations of honeybees and other pollinators are buzzwords in agriculture right now as horticulturists try to educate the public on how random use of pesticides is affecting these insects.

“This is a very important topic, as the current problems with pollinators impacts our food supply,” explains Jack Pierce, webmaster for EarthCare, the organization sponsoring a workshop on this subject Saturday, April 9, at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Ooltewah.

EarthCare is a Christian nonprofit whose mission is to promote better stewardship of the land by raising environmental awareness. No religious message is delivered at its events, just information to promote sustainable gardening.

Following a meet-and-greet at 9:30 a.m. with pastries, juice, coffee and tea, the pollinators workshop will begin at 10 a.m. EarthCare members will provide a potluck lunch at noon, followed by a nature walk at 1 p.m. (weather permitting).
