T.J. White was 2-for-4 with a double – one of three for his team – but the Chattanooga Lookouts had just six hits total as they lost 9-5 to Jackson on Saturday night at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts’ second straight loss closed out their series with the Generals (6-3), who spoiled the 2015 Southern League champions first homestand of 2016 by taking three of five games.
Chattanooga (3-7) returns to the road with a five-game set against the Mississippi Braves that starts today.
The Lookouts worked to cut into Jackson’s 9-1 lead in the seventh, when Mitch Garver and D.J. Hicks greeted Generals reliever Stephen Landazuri by drawing back-to-back walks. White lined a double to left field to score Garver, and Stuart Turner’s one-out single brought home Hicks and White to chase Landazuri. His replacement, Andrew Kittredge, ended the threat with a strikeout and a groundout.
Turner walked to lead off the bottom of the ninth and White’s single scored him, but the rally went no further.
Hicks and Daniel Palka also had doubles. Shannon Wilkerson’s third-inning sacrifice fly scored Turner.
Ryan Eades took the loss after allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.
Jackson’s Daniel Paolini was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI, and D.J. Peterson was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
