The Ooltewah Farmers Market invites the public to join in the festivities for the second annual Melon Festival Thursday, Aug. 18.
The festival will feature a variety of expected items, such as watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew, as well as various heirloom varieties and rarer melons many may not have heard of, said the market’s marketing director, Angel Miller.
The event will also offer activities such as line dancing, a seed-spitting contest and even a dance called the “watermelon crawl,” she said.
“We’re inviting everyone to wear their best melon attire,” Miller added with a laugh. “We don’t know what that means, but whatever that means to you.”
The Ooltewah Farmers Market takes place each Thursday at Ooltewah Nursery and Landscaping Co. from 3-6 p.m.
