Former Lee University pitcher Gray Ange has been named baseball coach at Silverdale Baptist Academy.

Seahawks athletic director Tim Couch said Ange was replacing Jonathan Adcock, who resigned in June.

"You talk with Gray and it's obvious that he's passionate about the sport," Couch said. "We feel he will be a valuable asset as he begins work with our high school baseball program."

Ange also coaches football and is in his second year as Al Rogers' defensive coordinator. A year ago he was assistant coach for SBA's middle school baseball team.

Ange, who also is a certified fitness trainer, previously worked at Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he was the pitching coach and developed a strength and conditioning program for the players. He also served as co-head coach for a fall travel baseball team, the Dirt Dawgs.

At LaFayette in 2008-11 he worked with pitchers and outfielders.

The North Carolina native began his college playing career at Pitt Community College in Greenville, N.C., where he was a starting pitcher on a region championship team. He then transferred to Lee and pitched as a starter and reliever from 2001 to 2003.

"Silverdale has been a very successful program and has come a long way in a short time, and that's a credit to the previous coach," Ange said. "I don't plan to change a lot, but I've been blessed to work with some really good coaches. I'm excited. With us going Division II it's going to be a tough road, but I feel like we have the kids at Silverdale to compete."
