Nineteen painters of the Mountain Art Guild will “Deck the Walls” at Exum Gallery this month. An opening reception for the exhibition is scheduled Friday evening, Dec. 2.

Also known as MAGI, Mountain Art Guild Inc. was founded in the 1970s by three Signal Mountain artists. The now diverse group meets weekly at the Bachman Community Center to paint, offer helpful advice and have lunch.

“We are very informal and welcome all who are interested in improving their skills,” says coordinator Mark Cobbe. “Our painters come from many different professions. Some are retired; some are not. Many have had training in college or in workshops; several are self-taught. Styles range from realism to abstraction and include the use of drawing and collage as well as paints and pastels. The only common thread is the love of art.”

Cobbe says previous group shows were held in 2014 and 2015 at Gallery 5 at the Mountain Arts Community Center.
